Welcome to New Sharon
New Sharon, located in southern Franklin County, is a rural community with a rich history. The town was granted to the early settlers in 1791 by the state of Massachusetts and was incorporated in 1794. The Town of New Sharon encompasses 46.83 square miles or 29,971 acres.
The town once boasted of 21 school houses, 6 churches, 3 sawmills and a gristmill, along with chair, shoe, shovel-handle, carriage, and clothing factories. Today, there is an elementary school, three churches, a fire station and a post office, along with numerous small businesses.
New Sharon, with its scenic hills, pastures, ponds and woodland offers numerous opportunities for year-round recreation, including fishing, hunting, canoeing, ATV riding, snowmobiling, skating and scenic photography.
